Knowledge is rumor until it lives in the muscles. – Papua New Guinea proverb

We don’t perform religious rituals because we believe in God, we believe in God because we perform religious rituals.-Robert M. Pirsig

Some things get right in your face, demand your attention, demand that you see the world their way.  They snarl and snap and explode and, often soon after, are forgotten.  And some sneak into you, like the fragrance of melody and the intimacy of gesture, and play upon you slowly over time, so that you can’t remember when the world changed.  Such things have a way of haunting our dreams, playing through us rather than over us.

SMG D/B is an interdisciplinary studio founded in 2002, with projects in architecture, sculpture, photography, writing and film.  In all of them, we look not for the dramatic, but  for what slips past the front line defenses and seeks to take up residence in our muscular memory, whispering to us in our sleep of new possibilities and of a new world.
